VILLAGE PARKS AND RECREATION ATTRACTIONS
The Village of Mt. Morris has over 26 acres of traditional leisure and recreation attractions in our four village parks, indoor facility and Village Square Campus. The park and recreation system is administered by a five-member Park and Recreation Board appointed by the Mayor. Many community and area volunteers, who do everything from planting flowers to building playgrounds, assist the Board in making our beautiful award winning parks (2003 Governors Home Town Award) the best hometown parks in the area.
Visitors and residents can enjoy the tennis, basketball and sand volleyball courts. Several soccer fields and ball diamonds are busy with Youth Sport League activities that provide spectator fun. Concessions are available during games. A bang wall provides fun and practice for kids and adults who want to improve their game.
Walk, run, skate or bike along the paved walk paths, stop at the exercise stations or at a shelter or park bench located along the path. Several picnic shelters with fireplaces can be reserved for large or small gatherings.
The kids will love our state-of-the-art Tot Lot and many playgrounds. Mom and Dad will love the side-by-side playgrounds at Dillehay, where fun for all the kids is provided at one location. You can view the memorial cannon located at Palmer/Moose Park.
Mounder Park is the newest addition to our system. Built in 2006 with the help of many volunteers and a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the park has a roller hockey facility and a skate park for skateboarding, in-line skating and biking thrills. A playground, shelter, walking paths, benches, and beautiful landscaping are all available for your enjoyment.
Our parks also include quiet areas where you can listen to the birds sing and the wind whisper through the trees as you watch the sunset. Zickuhr Park, located on the western side of our village, is a favorite location for watching sunsets and star gazing.

The Coliseum is our indoor recreation facility. The gymnasium is the site of basketball, volley ball and other indoor sports every evening in the winter months. Many other community events are held at the facility including public meetings, flea markets, sport camps, and festival events. The Coliseum is located on the beautiful downtown Campus Town Square. The historic campus buildings date back to 1839 when the Rock River Seminary was founded.

The Campus Band Shell is the site of many community events including summer evening band concerts performed continuously for over 100 years by the Kable Concert Band. Community organizations sponsor ice cream socials, popcorn and other treats to make the concerts a long-standing community tradition. Other entertainment held on the square includes local bands, the Let Freedom Ring Festival, Halloween Festival, Easter Egg Hunt, flea markets, and other events.
Sunset Golf Course and the Town and Country Lanes bowling facility round out the many recreational opportunities Mt. Morris provides for your enjoyment.
