CHRISTMAS ON THE VILLAGE SQUARE
A PROCLAMATION
By the President of the Village of Mt. Morris,
County of Ogle,
State of Illinois
WHEREAS, the Mt. Morris Senior Center's winter fundraiser,
the first annual CHRISTMAS ON THE VILLAGE SQUARE,
coordinated by the Senior Center, with the assistance and contributions
from local businesses, churches, organizations, residents, and the village,
will be held as a village-wide celebration on Saturday, December 12; and
WHEREAS, the Pinecrest Christmas Open House and the Pinecrest Grove
Community Center Open House are scheduled on Saturday, December 12,
and will serve as the starting point of the CHRISTMAS ON THE
VILLAGE SQUARE'S Children's Parade, led by the Mt. Morris Fire
Department; and
WHEREAS, the Mt. Morris Churches will feature a gift wrapping event
for children and families at an uptown business; and the Mt. Morris Community
Gymnasium will be the site of a Sock Hop, an early evening dance featuring a
live band and refreshments; and
WHEREAS, the Mt Morris Public Library will feature special
entertainment and readings by Mrs. Santa Claus during the
celebration; and
WHEREAS, numerous Mt. Morris Merchants and Businesses are
contributing their time and money to the celebration, and will
extend their business hours into the early evening Saturday to
provide warming stations and to promote sales and services; and
WHEREAS, the village's third annual "HOLIDAY ON THE CAMPUS"
Christmas trees and Wesley Avenue holiday decorations now light up
the campus and center of town, and carolers will be strolling through
the village square the evening of the December 12th celebration; and
WHEREAS, the official Village Christmas Tree will be lighted by the
Mayor on the Village Square following the Children's Parade; and
Santa will be available to greet children at a local business;
I, Gregory M. Unger, President of the Village of Mt. Morris, County
of Ogle, State of Illinois, in honor of the combined participation
of many village businesses, organizations, churches, village
employees, and citizens, and in celebration of the holiday season
here in Mt. Morris, do hereby proclaim CHRISTMAS ON THE VILLAGE
SQUARE, held on Saturday, December 12th, 2009, an official, community
wide celebration for the Village of Mt. Morris, and do furthermore
urge all residents to partake in the festivities and fun in support of the
Mt. Morris Senior Center and its fund raising activities.
